A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, has died after allegedly collapsing in a hotel room following an encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker.
The incident occurred on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Edo State.
The Edo State Police Command said three people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said Uwuigbe had lodged at the hotel and engaged the services of the woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob, before he reportedly collapsed and died.
AAU spokesman, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, confirmed Uwuigbe was a staff member but stressed that the incident occurred outside the university and involved no student.
