The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has proposed a 45-day plan to tackle insecurity in the North-West and North-Central regions, insisting that genuine commitment could help restore peace.
The association, in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by its National President, Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, lamented that the North, once known for unity, brotherhood and peaceful coexistence, had been plunged into killings, displacement and cattle rustling.
KACRAN said the worsening security situation could be addressed through coordinated action, dialogue and the commitment of governments, traditional rulers, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders.
Under its proposed approach, the association recommended an initial two-week period of engagement with stakeholders, followed by one month of decisive measures to tackle the crisis.
It maintained that the North had the human resources, traditional institutions and leadership structures required to address insecurity, provided they were effectively mobilised.
The association called on governments and relevant authorities to consider its recommendations, stressing that collective action was essential to protecting lives and property, restoring public confidence and enabling displaced residents to return to their communities.
KACRAN also warned that continued violence would worsen humanitarian challenges, disrupt economic activities and deepen the suffering of affected communities.
It expressed optimism that the implementation of its proposals could pave the way for sustainable peace across the affected regions.
